The Basin System of Irrigation was developed thousands of years ago.
It is now used only in parts of southern Egypt and northern Sudan. It only supports one main crop because it is dependent on the annual flooding of the Nile.
As the alluvial soil can be found along the banks of the Nile river the basin thus supports only one type of the main crop as it depends on the annual floods of the Nile and allows for the plantation of the single crop. The methods of irrigation depend on the surface, overhead and drip system.
