Habitat loss refers to the destruction of natural ecosystems and consequent reduction in the amount of habitat available for the species living in a given area. Poaching refers to the illegal killing of wild animals for different reasons (e.g., meat, recreation, etc.), in violation of international, federal, state/provincial, or local laws. Poaching can drastically reduce the number of organisms in natural populations, thereby this human activity can reduce genetic diversity and eventually may lead to the extinction of natural populations/species.
In conclusion, both habitat loss and poaching can reduce the number of organisms, reduce biodiversity and eventually cause the extinction of natural populations.
