The incomplete expansion of part or all of a lung due to a blockage of the air passages or pneumothorax is called atelectasis.
Atelectasis simply means when one or more areas in the lungs collapse. It is the partial or the complete collapse of the lung or one of its sections.
The effect of atelectasis on the lung is that the affected person can have difficulties breathing. Also, the person may have a cough.
It should be noted that the thing that's done to correct the situation and make the lungs function well is surgery.
