The US supreme court ruled against the state of Tennessee in Baker v. Carr because the Tennessee had not redistricted since 1901, keeping rural districts in power.
The Bakerr v. Carr case was on where the Supreme court of the US made the state of Tennessee to reapportion itself due to its population.
In this case the judge had ruled that the vote of all voters had to be equal regardless of where they resided.
Due to the ruling, the state of Tennessee was found to have violated the equal protection clause of the law.
