Answer:
The theme about courage which Walter Dean Meyers expresses in "Monkeyman" was when he stood up to the gang-Tigros despite being a quiet and easy goiing kid. This could be seen in the event where he rescued a lady, Tigro from peaches who was a member of the gang.
This led to the gang trying to beat him up later because of his interference in the fight that was never his. Another guy, Clean was even sent to beat up Monkeyman inorder to join the gang.
Monkeyman invited him and his gang to Memorial Park at 11 at night. When night came, people gathered to see the fight and Monkeyman brought along his grandfather and a woman. When the fight started, Monkeyman took off his shirt and waited with arms extended for the beating from Clean who hit him a few times, then decided it was no use wasting his time on Monkeyman.

2. After school, when Monkeyman fixed a date with the Tigros.
