When Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1 in 1957, it intensified the race between the two countries as US feared of falling behind in the race of space exploration.
As a result, the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958 was established and NACA incorporated itself with the newly established agency to win the competition.
