Adding negative number means that you take as many steps to the left as the number commands. For example, adding -4 means that you take 4 steps to the left from your current position.
So, if you want to evaluate [tex]-2+5[/tex], it means that you have to start from the origin, then you take 2 steps to the left and 5 steps to the right.
Where would you land?
Note that this is the same as [tex]5-2[/tex], so you can also take 5 steps to the right first, and then 2 steps to the left.
You should check that you'll land on the same number in both cases.
