In "Work or Love? A Christian Evaluation of John Dewey’s Views on the Purpose of Schooling," Cimpean states: Dewey rejects the Christian purpose for schooling, which is to serve and love God. When evaluated from a Christian perspective, Dewey’s progressivism falls short due to its refusal to promote the Christian ideal of serving and loving God. Dewey’s purpose for schooling is to promote a democratic state. In your opinion, what should be the purpose of schooling?

Respuesta :

Schools are institutions that have not existed in all societies. Moreover, the specific purpose of these is discussed even in places where schooling is commonplace.

In our society, school is required for all children. However, the reason why is not always clear. In my opinion, the purpose of schooling should be that of helping students reach their full potential. This means that they should be taught how to think, reason and reflect on matters that interest them. They should also be allowed to explore their passions, their interests and their character. I believe that in this way, schooling can contribute to making people happier, as well as more useful to society.
