During the times of slavery, many civil rights such as the right to vote were taken away from African Americans. For instance, the African Americans and white people would be separated into different sectors, that is called segregation. Many activists such as Martin Luther King Jr fought for the equal rights of the African Americans who were getting treated horribly.
