That's a good question. The original view on it has faded over the years and to this day cannot be confirmed yet some believed that it was to rectify the blood of Christ, as to say that by sipping away at the life force of the grapes (nature). Therefore taunting the world, leading the dark from the temptations and the light into salvation.

The reason why wine adopted as a ritual drink in Christianity but Islam prohibited the use of alcohol is the following.

For Muslim people, Islam does not consider to drink alcohol because it is bad for your health, and Islam you do not harm your body. The opposite case is found in Christianity, where priest drinks wine in remembrance of the Last Supper, when Christ had dinner with his apostles and said "This is the blood of Christ.." and blessed the wine and drank it.
