The four characteristics of a living thing are reproduction, response to stimuli, growth and cellular organisation.
What are living characteristics?
The features or characteristics that help to identify a living organism among non-living organisms are called living characteristics. These characteristics are shared by small unicellular organisms to complex multicellular organisms.
A living organism will always be able to sense its environment. Even bacteria to an unsuitable environment will respond by formation of an endosperm. The type of response to the environment is different in different organisms.
Unicellular organisms and other lower organisms undergo Asexual reproduction involving a single parent but multicellular animals undergo sexual reproduction. The goal is the continuation of the population which is achieved.
All living organisms acquire nutrition and use that for their growth and development. All living organisms have a very complex or sometimes very simple cellular organisation.
Therefore the characteristics of life are reproduction, response, growth and cellular organisation.
