Mansa Musa was a Muslim ruler of the Mali Empire in the 12th Century. He reigned just around the Islamic Golden age and controlled a large and rich empire.

He is generally regarded as one of the richest persons in history as his Kingdom was the largest producer of Gold at the time.

He became famous in Europe and the Arab world when he took a large caravan to take part in the annual pilgrimage to Makkah.

On his way, he conquered cities, distributed gold and helped the needy. When he stayed in Makkah, he distributed so much gold among the ordinary people that the price of gold sharply decreased.

He is remembered in Arab folklore because of his journey and historians usually regard him as a man so rich that his wealth is difficult to estimate.
