They contain membrane-bound sacs. The cell membranes of vacuoles are made up of phospholipids. Proteins are embedded in the cell membrane to transport small molecule. Manly in plants, a large vacuole is present. This vacuole is enclosed by a cytoplasmic membrane which is tonoplast. This layer can easily stretch and fill with solution. They can easily fill with proton and create acidic environment inside the cell. The development of chemical gradient is helps in transporting material inside and outside of vacuole. They use proton motive force to transport molecule.
