Homesteading was a very big thing for the Americans back in the 1800's. People would find big plots of land for sale buy them and build big houses and farms for food and shelter. Daniel Boone was a homesteader himself and did lots of things to survive. He would hunt, fish chop wood/lumber, and many other important things. Another important part of homesteading is making friends with the locals back in the 1800's and making friends with your neighbors. Winters were especially harsh for homesteaders because it killed their crops and drove off all the animals for hunting. So many homesteaders did not make it but instead ended up dying of hypothermia or some other disease. Plus it was harder for homesteaders to get to doctors so many people dies of one thing or another.
Answer:
The rigors of this new way of life presented many challenges and diificulties to homesteaders. The land was dry and barren, and homesteaders lost crops to hail, droughts, insect swarms, and more. There were few materials with which to build, and early homes were made of mud, which did not stand up to the elements.
