Social Media is often so “unsocial”, I refrain from using it. It seems to, sadly, be a very divisive medium. Instead of allowing assorted views and sharing of views, what I observed is just the opposite - a sort of “us against them” pervades. Surely the ideas of those you disagree with could be made into a more intelligent discussion than a free for all rude argument. It has great potential, but of what I have seen on certain platforms are vitriolic and far too unwholesome for more people to enjoy. I would think it COULD be a very positive way for people who disagree to share, in a reasonable way, why they think as they do, and “listen” to the opposing views. I enjoy talking with people, face to face, conversing about a variety of topics, nothing much would be off limits for my way of thinking, but in “social Media”, negativity is rampant, and people write what they’d dare not say openly, face to face with another person. Too many of these cowardly persons want to make trouble rather than share thoughts. It is so very unfortunate.

For those people who choose a platform that allows them to keep in touch with family and friends, to share events of importance between them, it can be wonderful; meanwhile, the companies glean all they can about the members to gain information for sale; and I am just too much of a private person to dive into any of the platforms I’ve seen.

I remain optimistic that more people will, in time, learn to use these devices and platforms in a way that is less offensive, but I’ll not be holding my breath in anticipation! That is just too bad. I’d much rather be able to write the opposite of what I have. I’d like to be wrong, but much would need to change before my opinion did as well.
