5. Explain why the commas are necessary in this sentence.
The president of the United States should use rhetoric
straightforwardly, not manipulatively, when attempting to
convince the people to support his plans.
In order for a sentence to make sense, commas need to be put in place to take a break and put more emphasis on words. When reading the sentence, commas allow for a breath.
