. Thinking about "reality" television shows and people who are well known primarily on social media platforms, define celebrity and cultural icon. Are people celebrities because they are talented, or can anyone achieve this status? How might this question parallel debates about high culture versus low culture?

Answer:

A Celebrity is someone who has achieved a level of notoriety usually with ties to some form of media and strictly to that type of media. A cultural icon is someone who has achieved some level of notoriety as with a celebrity. but the main difference is that cultural icons has a more positive connotation and did something to warrant a change for the culture they may represent. In terms of becoming a celebrity, i do believe you need some level of talent in that you need to do something to achieve some kind of notoriety more recently this has been fairly easy ( especially to those who use you Tube as their outlets) and if you make the right kind of video.
