A Celebrity is someone who has achieved a level of notoriety usually with ties to some form of media and strictly to that type of media. A cultural icon is someone who has achieved some level of notoriety as with a celebrity. but the main difference is that cultural icons has a more positive connotation and did something to warrant a change for the culture they may represent.
