Habitat loss due to industrialization, farming, mining activities   resulted in  massive deforestation, and therefore loss of  feeds( green plants) for  elephants to live on.Besides the deforestation has  narrowed   the  vegetation gaps between man, his abode  and elephants.

As a result  , elepahnts in attempt to feed encroach into human farmland to survive. Men (famers) in their selfish interest killed elephants to protect their farm crops and lives of their family  They poach them to reduce their population to avoid repeated encroachments. This  lead to rapid reduction in population,

Due to high value of teeth of elephants, they are been repeatedly hunted down, poached, to sell them as ivory  for ornamental and medicinal purposes. The most unfortunate fact is that men  killed elepahnats irrespective of the ages. This couple with long gestation period of this animal and few offspring produced' further put a strain on the population. making elephant among the animals on endangered list.
