Gabaldon was sent to live with the Nakano family after he joined the Moe gang.
The Nakano family were regarded as his extended family. After he joined this family, he enrolled into school with the children. From there he learnt how to speak the Japanese language and the Japanese culture.
At the start of the world war II, Gabaldon had to go stay in the relocation camps at Wyoming with this his family.
It was from this camp that he moved to Alaska in order to work in a Cannery before he enlisted to join the marine corp.
