Metaphase can be described as one of the most important phase of mitotic as well as meiotic cell division. In this phase, sister chromatids align themselves at the center of the cell which is known as the metaphase plate.
If the sister chromatids did not align properly, then there will nor be equal distribution of the chromatids in the daughter cells being formed. It might be that a daughter cell receives more chromosomes whereas the other daughter cell receives less chromosomes. Disturbances in this phase will not result in equal number of chromosomes in both the cells.
