The line of the best fit, the slope and the y-intercept are illustrations of the linear regression
How to determine the line of the best fit
To do this, we draw a line through the points on the scatter plot
See attachment for the scatter plot
Calculate the slope
From the line of the best fit, we have the following points
(x,y) = (2.5,1) and (22.5,9)
The slope is then calculated as:
[tex]m=\frac{y_2 -y_1}{x_2 -x_1}[/tex]
This gives
[tex]m=\frac{9 - 1}{22.5 - 2.5}[/tex]
Evaluate the differences
[tex]m=\frac{8}{20}[/tex]
Evaluate the quotient
[tex]m=0.4[/tex]
Hence, the approximate slope is 0.4
Calculate the y-intercept
From the graph, the line of the best fit crosses the y-axis at y = 0.
Hence, the y-intercept of the graph is 0
