What is one animal with freeze tolerance and in what kind of habitat does it live? How does the animal use the property of freezing point depression to survive? (Be specific!)

Respuesta :

There are many examples of lower vertebrates that hibernate in temperature regions where ice growth in the extracellular fluid is tolerated within certain limits. For example, the wood frog, Rana sylvatica, is capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -8°C, with 65% of its body water converted to ice, or at temperatures of -2.5°C for periods of up to 2 weeks.
