James A. Garfield - An impactful president:

James A. Garfield was the 20th president of U.S. He held the chair from March 1881 and died in September 1881. One of the most important events that make James Garfield distinct from many other presidents who had held the chair is that he was assassinated with a bullet. His tenure is the second-shortest in the U.S. presidential history.

James A. Garfield exposed widespread corruption and reclaimed credibility for the administration that he lost throughout the era of Reconstruction. Garfiled had to follow both Stalwart and Half-Breeds in his decisions during his tenure. Garfield had just began to work towards the agenda for the liberalisation of the civil service and other measures four months after his appointment. But on July 2, 1881, on the way to Williams College reunion, he ended up taking two bullets. His dying words were, “I am a Stalwart and Arthur is president now!”
