Water used as cooling agent in power plants

Effect:

Decreased dissolved oxygen levels

Increase in toxins

Explanation:

I just did the quiz and this was the right answer. The other person who answered got it mostly right. Just switch the "water cooling agent" and the "increase in toxins" around.

The cause and effect of thermal pollution from the given statements are;

Causes;

- Water used as cooling agent in power plants

- Deforestation

Effect;

- Decreased dissolved oxygen levels

- Increase in toxins

Thermal pollution is the rise and fall in temperature of a natural body that is caused by activities of humans.

Now, one cause of thermal pollution is Deforestation because Deforestation involves clearing of forest which could involve burning.

Another cause is water used as cooling agents in power plants because when water used as a cooling agent is returned to the natural environment at a higher temperature, the swift change in temperature will lead to a decrease in oxygen supply and that will affect the ecosystem.

Now to the effects of thermal pollution;

One effect is decrease in the amount of dissolved oxygen in water, which aquatic life requires, damage to larvae and eggs of fish in rivers, killing off some species of fish and others that have limited tolerance for temperature change.

Another effect is increase in toxins due to the fact that with the constant flow of high-temperature discharge coming from industries, there will be a huge increase in toxins that are being emitted to the atmosphere.
