- In the Americas, Columbus first "discovered" the continent with the goal of expading transoceanic trade. Decades after, most of the native american population had died from diseases, and wave after wave of European immigration came to the continent, that, coupled with the African slaves that were brought, changed the populations of the continent.
The Eastern Hemisphere is Asia, some effects were:
- Many countries became European colonies: as mentioned before, trade gave European countries great power and wealth, and this allowed them to dominate entire nations that had been independent for centuries. For example, the Dutch ruled Indonesia, Great Britain became rulers in India, and founded Hong Kong.
- Japan finally ended the policy of isolationism: for centuries, Japan had become isolated, and this is a reason why the country developed an unique cultural traditions. This ended in the middle of the 19th century when the United States demanded Japan to allow trade between the two countries.
The effect of the transoceanic connections in the Eastern Hemispheres include:
- Several countries became European colonies.
- Japan ended isolationism.

- It led to millions of enslaved people from Africa.
- It allowed Western European countries to become empires.
Transoceanic connections simply mean crossing across the seas.
