Of the two central characters, the adjutant and Timothy Lean, which man appears to be more "calm and collected?" Defend your answer with specific references to the text. Your paragraph should be at least 125 words long.

Respuesta :

Timothy Lean appears more "calm and collected" than the adjutant.

Though he did not like doing the things he had to do, he performed them well.

He searched the clothes of the corpse to look for his things.
He lifted the body, with the help of the adjutant, and laid it on the shallow grave.
He said a little prayer over the grave.
He continued covering the grave with dirt after the private got shot.
He covered the upturned face with earth to completely bury the dead.

Answer:

I feel like the adjutant was calmer and collected than Timothy Lean. The adjutant was the one who suggested they search the bodies to see what they had."..." we'd better search his clothes for--things." Lean nodded. Together in curious abstraction, they looked at the body..."Yes," he said, "we'd better see what he's got." He dropped to his knees, and his hands approached the body of the dead officer. But his hands wavered over the buttons of the tunic. The first button was brick-red with drying blood, and he did not seem to dare to touch it. "Go on," said the adjutant, hoarsely." Even though Timothy did the searching I feel like he was guided by the adjutant and was very uneasy when having to unbutton the shirt and needed the push from the adjutant to do it. The adjutant was characterized as having a hoarse voice but I think it came from being scared rather than not being calm
