most of the people in the early us at the time were farmers or untrained factory workers. so the us had to take up extra time to gather these "untrained men" to gather up an army large enough to fight. but, then they had to Train them so that they were capable of fighting. so after that it took a little longer cause training takes a couple weeks to a couple months. P.S. there were shorter training methods back then. so then once they were done they just took off in boats and raged war against the British. Hoped this helps let me know if not.
