A specific metaphor used in " Life without go-go boots" is the mentioning of a potato salad, which has a very short shelf life. This metaphor is used to compare it with fashion trends that also have a very short "life". In fact, the main theme of the story is that following trends is useless and senseless because they change constantly and they make people waste their lives. In the story, Barbara, the main character, is obsessed with fashion trends and her mother tries to show her how pointless is her obsession because fashion trends are temporary.
Answer:
There are many metaphors in the story "Life Without Go-Go Boots". The specific metaphor i'm going to be using in this story is "or on the lesser gratifications of food and textbooks". This specific quote contributes to the overall theme of sacrifice. The author only had enough money to eat and participate in trends or to eat and be able to afford his studies. He came to conclusion that he would rather succeed then to be apart of a temporary fashion trend. This might not have been the most gratifying thing in the heat of the moment but in long term, he made a very responsible sacrifice to put himself through school. The author valued his time and was planning for his future. He was determined to continue to build instead of forcing himself stuck with a pile of new clothes. To constantly work and buy the newest fashion trends without growth would be literal insanity.
