Given, In their last game, the basketball team scored a total of 86 points.
They made a total of 39 two-point basketball and three-point baskets
We have to find how many three-point shots did the team make?
Now, let the number of three – point shots be "n", then number of two point shots will be 39 – n.
Now, we know that, total score = score of two point shots + score of three point shots
86 = 2 x number of two point shots + 3 x number of three point shots
86 = 2 x ( 39 – n ) + 3 x n
86 = 78 – 2n + 3n
3n – 2n = 86 – 78
n = 8
Hence, they score of 3- point shots is 8
