They wanted more land to build on as well. Most colonies were founded by people who wanted religious freedom . A group of people wanted to separate from the England Church, these people were called the SEPARATISTS. Another group wanted to purify the church ,they were called the PURITANS . Both groups suffered an unfair treatment called PERSECUTION.
