A sample of 23 newborns at the Dallas university health center had the following lengths in centimeters. The measurements have been sorted from lowest to highest. 46.4,46.9,47.7,48.1,48.5,48.8,48.9,49.0,50.0,50.1,50.4,50.6,51.1,51.4,51.8,52.4,52.5,53.2,53.8,54.4,55.1,55.9 find the five number summary of the lengths of the newborns. A five number summary includes the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, and maximum. Do not use a calculator. For help with quartiles, see the math notes box above

Respuesta :

Answer:

Minimum - 46.4

First quartile - 48.8

Third quartile - 53.2

Median - 50.4

Maximum - 55.9

Step-by-step explanation:

If you write all the numbers down on a piece of paper and start crossing out from the beginning and end Ex. cross out 46.4 and 55.9 until you get to the middle (median) thats how you figure the median out. Continue to do that until you find the first quartile, and last quartile. The maximum and minimum are easy to find those are the biggest and smallest number in the group. To find the first and last quartile, you would do the same thing to find the median just do it from the median and go to the beginning or the end depending on which one you find first. Hope this helps! I learned how to do the crossing things from my old school :)
