What is racism?
Racism is the belief that some populations have new behavioral features related to genetic traits and may be classified as per the supremacy of one group over another. It may also refer to hostility, prejudice, or discrimination towards others who are of a different ethnicity. Racism nowadays frequently takes its roots in societal interpretations of biological differences among populations. As a result of presumptive shared inheritable traits, talents, or characteristics, various races may be regarded as essentially superior or inferior to each other in social acts, practices, beliefs, or political systems.
Though today's cultural science considers race and ethnicity as separate notions, earlier social science literature and everyday use have long seen the two as equivalent. "Ethnicity" is frequently used in a sense similar to that historically associated with "race," the classification of human groups based on characteristics believed to be inherent or necessary to the grouping (e.g. shared ancestry or shared behavior). Regardless of whether these disparities are characterized as racial, racism and racial discrimination are often used to describe bias based on ethnic background. The phrases "racial" and "ethnic" discrimination are synonymous, according to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
