According to Anti-Federalists, the Constitution was not something they wanted to be ruled by. They preferred the Bill of Rights.
According to Anti-Federalists, the Constitution was a way to reduce the individual power of each state. This led them to oppose it. They believed that big government would damage the independence of each state, and become oppressive. The Federalists, on the other hand, believed that in order to have a well-functioning state that protected all its citizens, it was necessary to have a Constitution.
