Allegories are metaphorical narratives (poems or stories) in which the involved characters and event are meant to represent a specific notion, event or object. One of the purposes of allegories is to explain or teach an important lesson.
An example of an allegory is Animal Farm by George Orwell which explores the Russian Revolution and the rise of communism.
