  In Costa Rica  spanish is spoken.

  In the bookshops, books and magazine are sold

EXPLANATION

"se" fulfills the same function as the passive voice in English. (but isn't grammatically a passive voice)

"Se" in an impersonal way can be translated by "one" or "you"  (like the French "on") when talking about people in general.
