As from the late eighth through the end of the ninth century, Maya civilization began its slow but rentless demise for unknown reasons. One by one, Mayan cities in the southern lowlands were abandoned, and by A.D. 900, Maya civilization had disappeared. Whereas The Aztecs flourished from 1300 to 1521 until they were conquered by Francisco Pizarro.
