Answer:
- formed in the middle of a plate
- formed where mantle erupts through crust
Explanation:
The Hawaii Islands are a chain of volcanic islands. They have been formed by a hot-spot in the middle of an oceanic plate, the Pacific tectonic plate. The convection currents in the mantle are much stronger in this part, and it manages to easily break through the crust. As it does, the magma from the mantle has been rising the seafloor and as it was going up it emerged above the surface of the water, resulting in the formation of volcanic islands. Because the plate is moving over the hot-spot, the volcanoes are moved away and detached from the hot-spot, so they stop being active. The hot-spot though continues to propel magma upwards, so it forms new volcanic island, and the process goes on and on, so a chain of numerous volcanic islands is formed, and maybe a new continent in the future.
