In this model of the greenhouse effect we can see how it works in a simplified manner. The sunlight comes to the Earth's atmosphere, some of it manages to penetrate it, while some is reflected back to space. The sunlight that has penetrated in to the atmosphere continues toward the surface of the Earth. Part of the sunlight is absorbed by the Earth, while part of it is reflected. Because of the high amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, like CO2 and methane, large portion of the reflected sunlight is kept into the atmosphere, and only smaller portion of it manages to get back into the space. This causes warming up of the atmosphere, resulting in warmer and wetter climate around the globe.
