I am pretty sure its A) The Second Agricultural Revolution led to an increase in the size of fields farmers used to grow crops, which led to a movement to find ways to increase productivity on smaller plots of land.

This was the beginning of the change from subsistence to commercial agriculture, so there wasn't biotechnology yet. This was a spark of the Industrial Revolution. These two revolutions working along side one another lead to the creation of many devices, such as the mechanical reaper, making it possible to produce much more with fewer people. This eliminates answer E.  C is also wrong because of this, less farmers were needed, not more.
