The United States Declaration of Independence, created during the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 4, 1776, is considered as the document that announced that the Thirteen Colonies (group of British colonies on the Atlantic coast of North America founded in the 17th and 18th centuries which were at war with the Kingdom of Great Britain) would regard themselves as independent states, no longer under British rule.
Such document still has an effect American life to this day for several reasons:
First, the Declaration of Independence is the birth certificate of America, since this document formally declares the intent of the colonies to govern themselves, therefore, the fourth of July currently stands as the symbol of the beginning of the powerful statement of being apart from the English Crown.
Second, the majority of the Declaration of Independence encompass the voices, opinions and complaints that the founding fathers had against English Crown and King George III. Today it is still shared this right to suggest areas in which the American government can improve upon, just as the authors of this document did.
Finally, the Declaration of independence placed men as equals, which has been used as the main argument in many Human Rights fights in America over the years.
