perimeter is all the sides of a shape added together*
so if this person has a rectangle for example that is 13in wide and 8in in length you have to remember that there are two other sides that have the same measurements. let me show you what i mean.

see? there are four sides here and we have to add up all four.
here is the math
8+8+13+13 = 42
so the answer here is 42 as the perimeter
