At which position would the planet be traveling the fastest?the slowest? Explain your reasoning.

Respuesta :

The planet travels the fastest from F to G and then from G to H because those positions are the closest to the Sun. On the other hand, the planet travels the slowest from L to A, and A to B as the planet is very far away from the Sun when it is at those positions.

On account of gravity, the speed of the planet is faster when it is closer to the sun and speed becomes slower when it is quite farther from the sun.

What is Gravitational Force?

The force of attraction experienced by any heavenly object from the more massive object in the galaxy or the universe is known as gravitational force.

The gravitational pull plays an important role to enhance the motion of a planet. Since every planet tends to revolve around the sun. So, the enhancement in the motion takes place in the following ways -

  • When the planet lies close to the sun, the influence of the gravitational force on the planet due to the sun is more, hence the planet would be traveling must faster.
  • And when the planet lies farther from the sun, the influence of gravitational force is less and the speed of planet is slower.

Thus, we can conclude that the speed of the planet is faster when it is closer to the sun and slower when it is quite farther from the sun.
