kale put a small box that is 8 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 2 inches tall into a box that is 18 inches long 7 inches wide and 3 inches tall. How much space is left inside the larger box?

The answer is:

282 in³

Since the question is asking about the amount of space, we know we are  dealing with volume.

the volume formula for a rectangular prism (which both boxes are since the  dimensions of each are different) is:

Volume= Length x Width x Height

for the small box, the volume is

V = 8 x 6 x 2

V = 96 in³

for the large box, the volume is

V = 18 x 7 x 3

V = 378 in³

The volume of each box is the amount of space there is inside. If you are to  put the smaller box into the larger box, the volume of the larger box will be  decreased by the volume of the small box

378 in³ - 96 in³ = 282 in³

282 in³ is left inside the large box.

Hope this helps!
