Some of the most common literary devices are: allusion, diction, epigraph, euphemism, imagery, metaphors, etc.
All these are techniques that can be used to get deeper in the reader's interest, but, of course, there is something about the writer's talent to make the story, or whatever he or she is writing, interesting for others.
