An opposing claim can strengthen a writers essay by further proving the point or claim or the other persons argument. It can weaken a writers essay by devaluing your main point and overshadowing your claims. If you’re opposing claim is shutting down all or most of the points of your essay, your essay isn’t strong and needs to re-thought.
