2x7+10^3+(10+6)
I put it in a calculator and I got 1,030
but what I'm trying to figure out is how they got that.
Please explain clearly. Thank you!

Respuesta :

PEMDAS- parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction
The calculator will solve the equation in this order. There for the 10+6=16,
then the 10^3=1000, then the 2*7=14.
Added all together you get 1030

Please, put away the calculator, pick up a pencil, and look at the problem.

Have you learned the "order of operations", or PEMDAS ?  It's the key
to this problem ... knowing what to do first, and what to leave for last.

You do things in this order:

P . . . parentheses
E . . . exponents (powers)
M . . . multiplication
D . . . division
A . . . addition
S . . . subtraction

                                              2 x 7   +   10³   +   (10 + 6)

Parentheses first:                2 x 7   +   10³   +        16

Powers next:                        2 x 7   +   1000   +     16

Multiplication next:                  14     +   1000   +     16

Add that up and what do you get ?           I got  1030 .
