Jamestown colony became the first permanent settlement in North America. The colony, named after King James I of England.  The location for the Jamestown colony, surrounded by water on three sides (easy for them to defend), with no inhabited by the Native Indians. The main reason for the colony was to generate wealth for England.

Plymouth became the first Puritan Settlement colony, established in 1620 by the pilgrims. The reason for establishing a colony in North America was to get away from England and seek freedom of religion. According to the pilgrims, the Church of England practiced old customs and needed to be reform, by seeing no change in the Church they separated and followed Puritanism.
