The Paleolithic is a period in human prehistory which extends from the earliest development and use of prehistory human technologies such as tools made of stone, bone, and wood, 3.3 million years ago, to the end of the Pleistocene. Therefore, the pieces of evidence which archeologists would look for to identify a site as Paleolithic would be features of the tools described before, as well as fire, which was used by the Lower Paleolithic hominins Homo erectus and Homo ergaster as early as 300,000 to 1.5 million years ago.
