The principle of popular sovereignty is the principle that states that the government is created and elected by the people, and that the government should act to benefit its people. Citizens are the ones that have the power, and they practice this principle by voting, when they elect their representatives, they give their consent to those representatives to establish rules and to protect their rights. Popular sovereignty also states that the constitution should be approved by the people or by their elected representatives, as well as any amendment.
