The 3 given graphs when classified as either even, odd or neither are respectively; Odd function, even function, neither even nor odd function
How to know if the graph is an odd or even function?
Graphs could either be odd function graph, even function graph or neither even nor odd function. This is explained as;
- A graph is said to be an even function graph if the function is symmetric about the y-axis as (x, y) → (-x, y)
- A graph is said to be an odd function if the graph is symmetric about the origin as (x, y) → (-x, -y)
- A graph is said to be neither even nor odd if the function is not odd or even.
A) In this graph which is the first graph, we see that the graph is symmetrical about the origin and so it is an odd function graph.
B) In this graph, we see that the graph is symmetrical over the y-axis and as such it is an even function graph.
C) In this graph, we see that the graph is symmetrical over the y-axis and as such it is an even function graph.
